Ofosu Ampofo Has Not Been Charged

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo
COUNSEL for the National
Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has revealed
that his client is yet to be charged by the police.
According to Abraham Amaliba, the police were
investigating offences including conspiracy to commit crime, to wit kidnapping
and unlawful damage against Mr Ofosu-Ampofo.
He made this known to
journalists when Mr Ofosu-Ampofo reported himself to the police investigating
team yesterday afternoon upon his release last Tuesday as part of his bail
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo arrived
around 1:55pm yesterday accompanied by his counsels including Mr Tony Lithur,
Abraham Amaliba and Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, as well as some party executives.
He left around 2:13pm.
Abraham Amaliba said that
after meeting the investigating team led by the Deputy Director General of the
Criminal Investigation Department, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)
George Tweneboah, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo was asked to report again on Wednesday, June 19,
2019, around 2pm.
“From my understanding,
they have not been able to go into the gadgets (phones seized) because the head
of the forensic team is not available but they have handed over the electronic
gadgets to the forensic unit,” he said.
Continuing, Mr Amaliba said,
“We want to cooperate with the CID because we do not want to say things that
will undermine the state institution so we will come back next Wednesday as
they told us to come back… (sic)”.
It would be recalled that Mr
Ofosu-Ampofo, National Chairman of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC),
who doubles as an elder of the church of Pentecost, was arrested on Tuesday
evening at Cantonment.
His arrest follows an
arrest warrant secured by the police from court to pick him after his refusal
to honour an invitation from the law enforcement agency.
