NANA B Jabs Mahama Over Youth Policies

The National Youth Organiser of the New
Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, aka Nana B, has cautioned Ghanaians
against bringing back former President John Mahama.
“Mr. Mahama has a known penchant for cancelling
youth-friendly policies under the pretext of reviewing them,” he said.
“If not for anything, we are aware that Mr.
Mahama and the NDC cancelled teacher trainees allowance, cancelled nursing
trainees allowance and froze the employment of newly trained health
professionals for over four years,” he added.
Addressing journalists at the second edition of
the ‘Youth Must Know’ series organised by the NPP Youth wing in Accra
yesterday, Nana B said the former President cannot be trusted with regard to
the development of the youth.
He said when Mr. Mahama was President, he said
categorically that he was not a magician to provide jobs but now that he is in
opposition, he has been pretending he cares for the youth.
The NPP Youth leader said when President
Akufo-Addo was in opposition, he promised to introduce Free SHS. Mr. Mahama and
his NDC who were in power said it was not possible saying “today what do we
see…His Excellency Akufo-Addo is walking the talk unlike the incompetent
Mahama.”
He said Mr. Mahama’s sudden U-turn on the Free
SHS is a charade. According to him, when Mr. Mahama comes to power he would
cancel the policy.
He said Mr. Mahama and his party sponsored 46 radio
and television adverts against the Free SHS policy in 2012 and over 15 catalogued
media reports on the NDC criticising the policy, for which reason he cannot
turn around to trick the people into believing that the NDC has now accepted
the Free SHS.
“It’s been 28 years since the promulgation of
the 1992 Constitution out of which the NDC has had 16 years to govern this
country. It is, therefore, humiliating that the NDC, in spite of the more years
they have had to rule this country than any other party, has failed woefully to
implement the supposedly constitutionally mandated Free SHS policy they are
claiming,” he said.
“For the former President Mahama to say in his
speech that he will assemble all stakeholders to provide him with solutions on
the Free SHS policy demonstrates clearly he does not have any meaningful
contribution to the Free SHS policy, but he is only desperate to associate
himself with the success chalked up by the policy.”
